Todos Santos: Pueblo Mágico

Todos Santos: Pueblo Mágico, meaning “All Saints: Magic Town”, is a small town in Baja California Sur located about an hour north of Cabo San Lucas. It is a natural paradise where desert meets the beautiful Sierra de la Laguna mountain range and lies on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. The town was first established by Father Jaime Bravo as the mission of Nuestra Señora del Pilar de La Paz in 1723. Later, it was named Santa Rosa de Todos Santos after its benefactor Doña Rosa de la Peña.

Todos Santos flourished on the production of sugar and lasted nearly one hundred years producing sugar.Today, the town of Todos Santos has a very wide variety of rich fields where farmers grow vast amounts of crops for the area. There are also many ranches owned by people from the nearby cities of San José del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas and La Paz, who use them as weekend getaways, that have large fields where they grow their own products for their own benefit or to sell. Sometimes, these ranches will rent out rooms for visitors wanting to stay certain periods of time.

Considered a very cultural and artistic town, many artists have moved to Todos Santos and opened up different art galleries to display and sell their work. The town is filled with all types of Mexican handcrafts; all unique, hand-made and well-priced works of art that you won’t want to miss out on.

In the surrounding areas of Todos Santos you will find some of the most popular beaches in the state of Baja that are perfect for surfing, skim boarding, boogie boarding, camping and whale-watching. The open sea and huge waves are what make these beaches great for water sports. At the same time, the serenity and the un-populated miles of sand make these a great spot to enjoy a few days of camping.

The quaint town of Todos Santos is a breath-taking work of art in itself. The cobbled streets, the cafes and boutiques, the kids playing on the sidewalks, the friendliness and welcoming spirit of the locals, the comfortable and slow-paced lifestyle make this such a wonderful place to visit.
