The town was first established by Father Jaime Bravo as the mission of Nuestra Señora del Pilar de La Paz in 1723. Later, it was named Santa Rosa de Todos Santos after its benefactor Doña Rosa de la Peña.
Todos Santos flourished on the production of sugar and lasted nearly one hundred years producing sugar.Today, the town of Todos Santos has a very wide variety of rich fields where farmers grow vast amounts of crops for the area. There are also many ranches owned by people from the nearby cities of San José del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas and La Paz, who use them as weekend getaways, that have large fields where they grow their own products for their own benefit or to sell. Sometimes, these ranches will rent out rooms for visitors wanting to stay certain periods of time.
